About Image Format Conversion

Our image converter allows you to easily convert between JPG and PNG formats directly in your browser. No need to install software or upload your images to a server, keeping your data private and secure.

JPG (JPEG) Format

JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a lossy compression format that reduces file size by discarding some image data. This makes it ideal for photographs and complex images where slight quality reduction is acceptable to achieve smaller file sizes.

Best for: Photographs, web images, email attachments, and situations where file size is important.

PNG Format

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless compression format that preserves all image data. It supports transparency and typically produces larger file sizes than JPG, but maintains perfect image quality without degradation.

Best for: Images with transparency, logos, text-heavy images, screenshots, and graphics that require high quality.

Image Conversion FAQ

Will I lose quality when converting between formats?

When converting from PNG to JPG, there may be some quality loss as JPG is a lossy format that discards some image data to reduce file size. You might notice slight compression artifacts, especially in areas with sharp contrasts or text. Converting from JPG to PNG will not improve quality, but will preserve the current quality without additional loss.

What happens to transparency when converting PNG to JPG?

JPG does not support transparency. When converting a PNG with transparent areas to JPG, the transparent regions will be filled with a background color (usually white). If your image requires transparency, PNG is the preferred format.

Is there a file size limit for conversion?

This browser-based tool has a 10MB upload limit. For larger files, you may need to resize your image first or use a desktop application. Since the conversion happens entirely in your browser, your computer's processing power and memory will also affect performance with very large images.

Are my images secure when using this converter?

Yes, all conversion happens locally in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server, ensuring complete privacy and security for your content. This also means conversions are typically faster as they don't depend on internet upload/download speeds.
